Bull Terrier

Breed Description - see AKC for detailed standard

Average lifespan 12 years

Breed problems can be both inherited or diseases and disorders seen frequently in a breed and mode of inheritance unknown. Both are listed.

Breed problems

Deafness
Recessive umbilical hernia
Inguinal hernia
Skin problems

In bull terriers, one report suggests polycystic kidney disease is an autosomal
dominant trait, which would require only one parent to carry the gene
(Burrows, et al, Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1994).

Copper toxicity as this has been seen in a number of terrier breeds, including
Norwich terriers, wire-haired fox terriers, Bedlington terriers, Airedale
terriers, bull terriers, West Highland white terriers and Kerry Blue
terriers. M.R.
